Welcome to this new post. After discussing one of our previous posts, a short story about Steve, who fell victim to excessive use of digital tools, I found it necessary to discuss the extent of positivity that can be achieved through digital detox.

As we all know, we all strive in this advanced world full of noise and distractions to reach a sense of self-awareness and achieve inner peace. So I searched extensively to bring you the best short story about digital detox. The following short story is about a couple who tried digital detox.

Digital detox for couples

Susan says this in a story published in Woman and Home

A few weeks ago, she and her partner decided to do their first digital detox because they felt they needed to take a break from the digital world, which has begun to creep into every aspect of our daily lives, moment by moment, from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep.

So they chose to go to a cottage, as this cottage is part of a group that helps people detox and get rid of digital addiction.

They were looking for peace and to connect with each other better, and beyond that, they wanted to feel more themselves and to connect with themselves.

Once they arrived at the cottages, they found themselves in a world completely disconnected from the digital world. There were no TVs, no Wi-Fi, and nothing to do with screens. There was only the beauty of nature and the quiet of the Leicestershire countryside. It is a safe haven from the digital world.

This retreat also encourages visitors to get away from all possible forms of screen connection. This was obvious, as the first thing they did was to put their devices in a closet, completely disconnect from their use, and give their minds a digital break.

The idea seemed crazy at first, how could you spend a day without using your phone and disconnecting from the latest news and developments? However, the desire to discover how much this experience would change was deeper than thinking about the urgent need to stay connected to the digital world.

Digital detox and self-awareness

As time passed, thoughts began to shift from the need to connect to a feeling of amazing comfort. The various distractions, the world containing a huge volume of information, and the people who could interrupt us suddenly disappeared. It was as if there were restrictions that had been broken.

These hours passed as they wandered around in the winter sunlight, where they found that there was more time to do several activities. They went to enjoy a copper bath, then lit the wood stove and sat next to it. They found themselves immersed in what they were doing, to the point of enjoying the sounds of the crackling wood.

According to Cardinal Clinic

“Taking a break from technology can help you become more self-aware and present in the moment. Without constant notifications and distractions, you’ll be able to tune in to your own thoughts and feelings, and engage in mindfulness practices that can help reduce stress and improve mental clarity.”

Connect with yourself.

It was a moment of calm away from the noise of the internet and screens. The quietness with the rustling of leaves made them enjoy the rhythm of their breathing, which shifted their focus toward themselves and each other.

That deep sense of calm started to bear fruit as they started engaging in conversations about various things, some with purpose and some without purpose. Even the enjoyment of conversations was missing due to the distraction caused by digital technology. It was a great feeling of refreshment.

As soon as it was time for bed, the activities and staying away from screens seemed to pay off. She fell asleep at 11 and woke up at 8.

It was unique, as she used to find it difficult to sleep and would wake up in the middle of her sleep to check her smartphone. What a wonderful night! Her memories took her back to the days when she used to go camping under the moonlight and stars.

Digital Detox and Inner Peace

Without a doubt, the previous day’s activities and the inner peace that helped in deep sleep positively affected the next morning. This separation from screens and the digital world made breakfast enjoyable, as they lit a fire and enjoyed every detail of the morning. How much they missed those simple moments and how precious they were.

As noted by Spiritual Living for Busy People

A digital detox is more than just a break from technology; it’s a journey towards inner peace and mindfulness.

It’s about rediscovering the joys of life beyond the screen and reconnecting with the essence of who you are.”

Digital boundaries benefit

The conclusion of their experiment was full of advantages; this experiment opened their eyes to how much time they spent on their smartphones and other digital devices and how that could be spent on more fulfilling activities.

The experiment was full of joy, but what they learned was that having digital boundaries contains great benefits and lets one feel wonderfully freed up in the present. The shift that happens in conversations and feeling connected with themselves was something that deserved to spend more time away from digital devices.

It’s time to look at how long you spend on your smartphone and prepare yourself to set digital boundaries to have a more peaceful life.
